About Our Group

Some of you have been asking what our little group is all about so here goes. "Sisters By Choice" is the name of a group of women in Marten River and area who provide support and encouragement to each other.
The name "Sisters By Choice" was chosen to reflect the relationships that have been formed through the group. With many members living far from family, far from their own sisters and friends, it's nice to have a "sister" in the neighbourhood.
As we live in a "rural" area, it's nice to gather together on a regular basis, especially throughout the winter get to know each other better.
A reminder again, that May 7th is clean-up day at the Interfaith Chapel and everyone is welcome.

Interfaith Chapel

As many of you know, and for those that don't know, we have been trying to breathe some new life into our chapel. It's a well known landmark in Marten River that we are proud of.
The chapel committee is looking into having a retired minister, lay person, or youth pastor to host services in the non-denominational chapel during the summer season this year.
Of course, it is also open for weddings, and celebrations of a similar kind throughout the season, and there have been meetings, discussions and suggestions on how to take advantage of this facility.
Hopefully, there will be a renewed interest in making more uses of our charming little chapel.

Important Anniversary

I must remind myself and everybody that this is the 25th anniversary of the start of Terry Fox's
run across Canada for cancer. I was fortunate enough to see him when he ran through Ajax which I called home at the time. We clapped and cheered for him as he ran by and he was inspiring then.
Little did we know how inspiring and greatly admired he would become. Please take a moment to remember him and all the people you know that have been touched and we have lost from this horrible desease.

Daffodil Tea a Great Success

The daffodil tea that was held on April 10th was a great success. We raised well over $600.00 for the cancer society. The room was beautifully decorated with a springtime theme and displays of arts and crafts by some talented women were wonderful.
It's amazing what a tiny little place in our corner of the world can do when we pull together to accomplish something. Never have I felt such a sense of community and togetherness since I have lived here (over 16 years).
